Boxing and Mental Health

Our boxing and mental health program, funded by the Mayor’s Fund for London, offered a life-changing experience for 30 young men, addressing not only their physical health but also the critical issue of mental well-being. In a time when young men are facing increasing challenges with mental health, this program provided a much-needed space for them to build resilience, confidence, and a strong sense of community. Over 25 hours, these young men were given the opportunity to strengthen their minds and bodies, developing skills that would serve them both inside and outside the ring.

Through guided boxing sessions, participants learned techniques for focus, stress management, and discipline, giving them tools to handle life’s challenges. The program also offered enriching experiences beyond boxing, including a visit to Otherworld for a unique immersive adventure, nourishing meals, free books, and new boxing gear. As a reward for their commitment and growth, each participant received JD vouchers to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

"Boxing helped me focus and deal with stress,” shared Jayden, age 16. "It’s not just about punching; it’s about finding strength in myself and learning to control my thoughts and actions."

This program went beyond traditional boxing training; it empowered young men to cultivate physical and mental strength, creating a foundation of resilience and self-awareness. At Beyond the Bias, we know that mental health support for young men is often overlooked, and we created this program to fill that gap—giving them the tools and support to navigate life’s pressures with confidence. By combining physical activity with mental health resources, we helped these young men build lifelong skills, foster a supportive community, and, above all, find strength within themselves.
