Bridging Communication Gaps with Our British Sign Language Project

Our British Sign Language (BSL) project was driven by our commitment to fostering a more inclusive community where everyone has equal access to communication. We recognised that language barriers often prevent meaningful connection between hearing and deaf individuals, and we saw a need to change this dynamic. By offering participants the chance to gain a Level 2 qualification in BSL, we aimed to equip young people with the skills to actively bridge these gaps, while building awareness and understanding in our wider community.

Guided by our dedicated BSL tutors  from Al-Isharah, participants not only acquired a new skill but developed the confidence to engage in real conversations and form lasting connections with the local deaf community.

“Learning BSL and getting qualified opened up a whole new way for me to connect with others,” said Zara, age 21. “I felt like I could truly be there for people who don’t often feel heard.”
